Some humidity to preserve Zino little cigars

As the name humidor, derived from the Latin “humidus” = “damp”, already suggests, this is the most important utensil to provide Zino little cigars with the necessary moisture for their correct storage. Under optimal conditions, they can be stored for several years without any problems, which in this case means, that the climatic conditions in the countries of origin of Zino little cigars must be imitated as closely as possible. Since there are consistently moderate temperatures and a high level of humidity, which are well above the average values, this is where the humidor comes into play. Its purpose is to ensure that the humidity inside is constantly in line with tropical conditions, i.e. around 68 to 75%.

If the value is too high, there is a risk of mold growth, but if it is too low, Zino little cigars dry out and the taste is downright inedible. In addition to large, permanently installed humidors, which are an integral part of every cigar lover’s home, there are numerous smaller versions, so-called travel humidors or humidor sets, which make it possible to always have the Zino little cigars with you on the go and on longer trips.

The humidor sets are mostly made of different woods, but for the most important part, namely the lining of the interior, three special types of wood are used, which are characterized by particularly favorable properties: Spanish cedar wood, Honduras mahogany and American red cedar wood. Of these species, Spanish cedar wood is by far the most widely used. It offers protection against pests such as mites and tobacco worms through special fragrances and is particularly good at absorbing moisture. It also supports Zino little cigars in their maturation process and has a positive effect on their aroma, which is not the case with other types of wood.

In addition to the moisture-storing function of the wood, a humidor set is equipped with its own humidification system, for which either sponges or plastic imitations are used, through which moisture is released evenly. The optimal functionality can be checked with the help of the hygrometer integrated in most sets.
