The company history of Arturo Fuente is moving and well worth telling: Cuban Arturo Fuente, born in 1887, immigrated to Key West in Florida in 1906. As a boy, Arturo Fuente learned the art of cigar making from his father. In 1912, the 24-year-old founded the A. Fuente & Co. factory in West Tampa. Cigars were made by hand from Cuban tobacco. Already twelve years later, the company had almost 500 employees. But the success of the young Arturo Fuente was not long-lasting: a devastating fire destroyed the entire factory, so production had to be stopped.

22 years later, nobody believed in resuming production. The now almost 60-year-old Arturo, however, sensed his second and last chance and wanted to prove it again. The depression and the Second World War were over and the skilled baker resumed the Arturo Fuente Little Cigars craft. He motivated the entire Fuente clan to roll Arturo Fuente Little Cigars. The business was slow at first, but Arturo Fuente firmly believed in the success of the Arturo Fuente Little Cigars craft and was ambitious. When the business established itself locally and thus laid the cornerstone of the restart, he sold it to his youngest son Carlos for one dollar in 1958. However, the Arturo Fuente family did not seem to be granted success: the factory burned down again in 1979 in the wake of the Nicaraguan revolution.

But Carlos Fuente didn’t want to give up either. He decided to return to his family’s home, pledged his parents’ house and opened the company for the third time in Santiago, Dominican Republic. This decision was crowned with success. Carlos Fuente Senior and Carlos Fuente Junior are now managing directors of the Arturo Fuente brand. This is a company that produces almost 30 million Arturo Fuente Little Cigars a year.
